Mornin’

Privacy Policy

Last updated 16 October 2026

Mornin’ is an alarm clock app published by Retrofire LLC, a company based in Georgia, United States (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what the app collects, where it goes, and what stays on your iPhone.

The short version. Our servers hold your account and a copy of your alarms and routines, and that copy only ever goes up: the app never downloads it onto a phone. Your home, work and other saved addresses are never stored on our servers unless you send us a bug report, which includes them; otherwise the only time any of them passes through is when you ask Otis a question with his AI answers turned on (see below). We do not show ads, we do not use any tracking or analytics service, and we do not sell your information.

Your account

Mornin’ needs an account. Our hosting provider, Supabase, stores:

If you sign in with Apple or Google, that company handles the sign-in itself, under its own privacy policy.

The copy of your settings

While you are signed in, the app saves a copy of the following to your account:

The photo you register for a photo mission is not included. The copy is upload only: the app never downloads it onto a phone, so nothing you have set up can change underneath you while you sleep. Each phone writes its own copy. We do not read it, and deleting your account deletes it.

Your morning routine on the lock screen

When your morning routine is showing on your lock screen, the app sends that morning’s task names and times to our server, together with a code Apple issues for that lock screen card. Our server uses them to send Apple’s push service the updates that move the card on to your next task while the app is closed. These records are not linked to your account and are deleted within two days.

Your commute on the lock screen

When your commute is showing on your lock screen, the app sends your leave time, your arrival time, how many minutes the trip takes and whether you drive, walk or ride to our server, together with a code Apple issues for that lock screen card. Our server uses them to send Apple’s push service the updates that change the card to “Leave now” and take it away five minutes after your leave time while the app is closed. Your destination, its name and your location are never sent. These records are not linked to your account and are deleted within two days.

Photo missions

When you complete a photo mission, the photo you take and the photo you registered are sent through our server to Anthropic, whose AI checks that they match. A photo is only ever sent with your permission. The app asks for it when you pick a photo mission, and again when you save or accept an alarm with one if you have not given it, and you can take it back at any time in Settings > Alarms > “Photo checks use AI”. Without your permission, or without an internet connection, nothing is sent: that morning the photo mission becomes the Let the light in mission, which reads the light on your phone. Our server does not keep the photos. Anthropic keeps them for up to 30 days and, under its commercial terms, does not use them to train its models.

Photo checks are tied to your account only so they can be counted. Our server keeps a daily tally for each account (your account, the date and the number of photo checks run that day), which limits misuse of the check. The tally holds no photos and nothing about what they showed, and it is deleted with your account.

Alarm songs

Mornin’ comes with five alarm songs. The others are downloaded from our server only when you choose one for an alarm; listening to a preview downloads nothing. A download is an ordinary web request, so our host sees your IP address, the time and which song file you asked for, as any website would. The app sends nothing about you or your account with it.

Feature requests

If you send a feature request from Settings, the words you type and the app’s version number are saved on our server with your account, so we can read them and know which requests come from the same person. Nothing else is sent with them. Each account can send up to ten a day. They are deleted with your account.

Bug reports

You can report a bug from Settings > Help & About > “Report a bug”, or ask Otis to write one up, which shows it to you with Accept and Decline. Nothing is sent until you tap the tick or Accept. A report is saved on our server with your account and holds what you wrote (or Otis’s summary of it), the same short summary of your Mornin’ that Otis reads (described under “Help chat with Otis”: never where your trips start, never your calendar, reminders or countdowns), the app’s activity log (times and counts of what your alarms and the app did, never your alarm names, addresses or anything you typed), and the app’s version. A report Otis writes up also includes the chat it came from, up to 20,000 characters, without any pictures you added to it, without the answers your phone gave itself and without the names of any reminders, countdowns or calendar events your phone looked up. We use it only to find and fix the problem. Each account can send up to ten a day. Reports are deleted with your account.

Help chat with Otis

Otis’s answers are written by OpenAI’s AI. The first time you type him a question, the app asks for your permission (and asks once more after an update that changed what he reads or whose AI writes his answers), and you can turn it off at any time in Settings > Help & About > “AI answers from Otis”.

With AI answers turned on, each question you type is sent through our server to OpenAI together with the recent part of that conversation (up to 40 messages) and a short summary of your Mornin’: your alarms (their names, times, days, missions and their settings, snooze and song, and when each last rang and whether you beat it, but never a mission’s private parts such as your spoken phrase, barcode or photos), your saved trips (their names, destinations, stops, times and leave times, never where they start; a trip set up from a calendar event is sent as “Trip 1” with its address, never the event’s name), your morning routines (their names, tasks and times), the app’s settings (never the words of your reason), the weather by the hour and for the next few days without your town, sunrise or sunset, your streak, badges and mornings won, whether you have Mornin’ Pro and its App Store prices, and whether Mornin’ has its alarm, notification, location, Motion & Fitness, camera and microphone permissions (only whether they are allowed). Otis never receives your calendar, your reminders or your countdowns.

You can also add up to three pictures to a question with the + beside the message box, taken with your camera or picked with Apple’s photo picker, for example a screenshot of your work schedule so Otis can suggest your alarms. The app makes each picture smaller and leaves out its location and camera details before anything is sent. A picture goes to OpenAI only with the question you add it to, never with later ones, under the same terms: our server passes it on without keeping it, and OpenAI keeps it for up to 30 days to check for misuse and does not use it to train its models. The pictures stay on your phone in the chat, left out of your phone’s backups, until they are deleted: when you clear the chat, when you delete your account, or when the chat makes room by clearing its oldest messages (it keeps the newest 200), which takes the pictures in those messages with them. Apple’s photo picker gives the app only the photo you tap; Mornin’ cannot see the rest of your photo library and does not ask for access to it.

Our server does not keep any of this, and it asks OpenAI not to keep a copy of the answers for later use. OpenAI does keep what is sent, and its answers, for up to 30 days to check for misuse of its service (longer only where the law requires it, or where needed to protect its service or others from harm), and it does not use any of it to train its models. The chat itself is kept only on your phone, and you can clear it at any time.

Otis can suggest a new alarm, trip or reminder when you ask for one. It appears in the chat with Accept and Decline, and nothing is saved until you tap Accept; it is then saved on your phone like one you made yourself (a trip’s destination is found with Apple Maps, a reminder goes into Apple’s Reminders app). When you ask Otis what is on your calendar or which reminders are due, your phone looks them up and shows them in the chat; they are never sent to our server or to OpenAI.

Messages to Otis are tied to your account only so they can be counted. Our server keeps a daily tally for each account (your account, the date and the number of messages sent that day), which limits misuse. The tally holds nothing you wrote, and it is deleted with your account. Please do not put passwords or other private details in a message.

What stays on your phone

The following is stored only on your iPhone and never sent to us:

Permissions, and what each one is for

Mornin’ asks for each of these only when a feature needs it, and uses it only for that feature.

Mornin’ does not use your contacts or your health data, and it does not access your photo library. If you choose a profile picture, or a picture to send to Otis, Apple’s photo picker gives the app only the photo you pick.

The services we use

Subscriptions

If you subscribe to Mornin’ Pro, the purchase is handled by Apple. We never see your payment details.

Deleting your account and your data

In the app, open Settings, tap your account at the top, then Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account, the copy of your settings held in it, your daily photo check and help chat tallies and any feature requests and bug reports you sent, and erases the app’s data on that phone. It cannot be undone, and afterwards we hold nothing from which any of it could be restored. The lock screen card records are not linked to your account and are deleted within two days in any case.

Deleting the app without deleting your account removes the data on your phone but leaves your account and its copy. Use Delete Account if you want both gone.

Children

Mornin’ is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the new version will be posted here with a new date at the top.
